'The Phaedo is a platonic dialogue concerning death and the existence of the soul. The dialog is set up as Phaedo’s recollection of the conversation that took place with Socrates shortly before his death. In it, Socrates remarks that the philosopher should look forward to death and that philosophy is the practice for death. Later in the dialogue, it will be argued that this is because after death the soul will be able to freely reason without the wants and needs of the body. This leads to a dialog where they attempt to prove the soul’s existence.'
But the whole thing had to be translated! And Plato is especially hard to translate. Do we really know that what we are reading is what he meant for us?
